Skill Development



The Skill Development Cell, SLC organized an industrial visit to Moon Beverages, Sahibabad on 12th October 2017. It is a Manufacturing unit of Coca Cola and manufactures beverages like Coke, Thumbs Up, Sprite, Maaza, Limca&Kinley. Batch of 70 students visited there including 4 Faculty Members. There were 5 manufacturing lines i.e. one line refilling Glass Bottles, two lines for PET bottles, one line for Canister and 1 line for Mineral water (Kinley).
Moon Beverages welcomed the students and faculty members and discussed precautions & instructions to be taken care in the Manufacturing Unit. The batch was divided into groups of 8 students to avoid chaos in the Unit. The students were introduced to the proceduresof cleaning & refilling glass bottles. Process of production of Thumbs Up by mixing concentrate syrup and carbonated water was explained to students by an experienced representative. PET lines included blowing of bottles, filling and packaging them. The unit has installed waste water treatment plant which processed dirty water produced during manufacturing. Treated water was used within the unit for various purposes. Rainwater harvesting plant was also there to save water.

This was followed by an active Q&A session anddiscussion among the students, faculty & Management team of the company. Students had various doubts and were addressed excellently by Management Team. Job opportunities for different streams were discussed. Students were given refreshments way back to college and the trip ended on a good note by a vote of thanks given by Dr SB Rathore & Dr Kavita Arora, Convenor, SDC.

The Skill Development Cell of Shyam Lal College in collaboration with Bombay Stock Exchange Institute Ltd. organized a seminar on "HOW TO BE AN EXPERT TRADER", on 25th September, 2017 in seminar Hall, SLC. The seminar was attended by 80 participants including faculty members and students. The resource person for the seminar was Mr. Pulock Bhattacharji, Head of Business Department in BSE Institute. He is an experienced professional specializing in BFSI sector, having more than 30 years of national and international experience.

The main objective of the seminar was to make students aware about the various perspectives in the stock trading. Mr. Pulock bhattacharji started the seminar in a very enthusiastic manner, initially interacting with the students about BSE and stock trading. Then he explained about the historic background of BSE and its journey of 142 years to become one of the leading stock exchange of Asia and also, the fastest stock exchange in the world. Then he gave examples of Warren Buffet, one of the world's richest man, who created his wealth through investing in the startups and stock market. Another example quoted Mr. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, an Indian investor, who created 2.7 billon wealth through stocks.

Among the 5500 companies listed on BSE , he took some of the leading stock's like TCS , HDFC and Eicher Motors in order to explain about wealth creation in the stock market i.e. creation of wealth to the shareholders . To conclude, he spoke about the ten golden rules which a trader must follow while trading. He ended his speech with an inquisitive question-answer session. Later, the audience had an interactive session with Dr. Kavita Arora and Dr. Anil Khurana. Dr. Anil advised students to be more cautious and study not only about stock market but also the economy, as economy is a collection of market . The session ended with vote of thanks presented by Dr. Kavita Arora, convenor,SDC.

Skill Development cell and National Service Scheme of Shyam Lal college organised a Two Days Workshop on GST in Computer Lab, SLC on 29th and 30thAugust,2017. The workshop was attended by 55 participants including Traders, Faculty and students from different colleges and academic institutions of repute. Sh. Kuldeep Singh , Joint commissioner , GST, Mr. Ravi Kumar and Mr.Anand Dabas, GST, Officers , Dr.SB Rathore, Associate Professor , Shyam Lal College and Mr. Amit Mishra from Taxmann were invited as the resource persons for the Workshop. The dignatories were welcomed by Principal and Patron, Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar, and Convenor, Dr. Kavita Arora.

The inaugural session addressed by the College Principal Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar focused on the relevance and need of GST in India. He said that GST is a revolutionary step taken by the Government of India to make Indian economy stronger than before.

In the first session, Sh. Kuldeep Singh, Joint commissioner, GST talked about Goods and service tax network (GSTN), benefits of GST and the registration procedure. He led emphasis on benefits of GST over previous system of tax collection. Further, Mr. Ravi Kumar and Mr.Anand Dabas, GST, Officers explained the registration process in detail. They elaborated on composition scheme under CGST Act. In the followed session, Mr. Amit Mishra from Taxmann exhibited the software for filing the GST returns: One Solution.

The participants delighted with the first day's interaction, reassembled on the second day of the Workshop. Dr.SB Rathore, Associate Professor, Shyam Lal College shared his views on the country's biggest Tax Reform. He discussed different slab rates, various central and state taxes subsumed under GST, rules for mandatory registration and Goods and services identification number (GSTIN). His vast horizon of experience welcomed the queries from the audience.

All the sessions in workshop had a vibrant two way discussion with an equally participative audience. The valedictory session of the workshop has given a chance to participants to thank the College for providing this learning arena. This was followed by a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Kavita Arora, Convenor, SDC. The participation certificates were distributed to all the participants.

The Skill Development Cell, Shyam Lal College, organized a Workshop on "Page Designing and News Packaging" on 25th January, 2017. The resource persons for the workshop were, Mr. Bharat Bhushan, Associate Producer, NDTV India and Mr. Anurag Anveshi, Senior Assistant Editor, Jansatta. While Mr. Bharat Bhushan talked about the process of News Formation in the Television Media, Mr. Anveshi explained the process in Print Media. The main purpose of the workshop was to give an insight on the scope of employment in the Media Sector. The audience got a glimpse of tasks involved in News making and learned the importance of language in it. The audio-visual aids made the session more interesting. The workshop ended with an inquisitive question-answer session and a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Kavita Arora, Convenor, SDC.

To gain knowledge about the interdependence of different aspects of Art and Technology, the Skill Development Cell, Shyam Lal College organized a Seminar on the topic, "Towards A New Pedagogy: Films, Music, History, Technology and Skill Development" on 10th January, 2017. The Resource Person for the seminar was Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of History, SLC. Mr. Sanjay Kumar enlightened the students and faculty members about the widespread impact of Art in various forms, due to advanced technology. He beautifully explained the journey of Indian Cinema and music. The audience was introduced to "Karaoke", a Japanese form of interactive entertainment in which an amateur singer sings along with the recorded music, using a microphone. The Seminar ended with an interesting Karaoke session and a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Kavita Arora, Convenor, SDC.

The Skill Development Cell, SLC started a Certificate Course on Radio Broadcasting on 26th Oct., 2016. Mr.R.K.Singh, Technical and Programme Consultant at DUCR delivered an introductory lecture on Radio Broadcasting. A batch of 60 students from different courses in college, having interest in Radio Broadcasting were enrolled for the certificate course. The course is designed to give students an exposure as well as practical experience of the field.

In first session of the course, Mr. R.K.Singh enlightened the students about the journey of radio broadcasting. He explained various ways of broadcasting: Medium Wave Broadcasting, Frequency Modulation, Satellite Broadcasting, Internet Broadcasting and Short- Wave Broadcasting. They were introduced to technical terms like Demodulation, Pitch, Temper, Amplitude Modulation etc. The audio- visual aids and presentation he used added to the audience's interest in the field of broadcasting .The session ended with a question- answer session that was intellectually stimulating and enriching. The students participated very enthusiastically and gained knowledge through this brain storming session.

The Skill Development Cell, Shyam Lal College organized a seminar on radio broadcasting titled," The Journey of Voice from Microphone to Radio Receiver " on 15.9.16.The chief guest was Mr.R.K.Singh ,Technical and Programme Consultant at DUCR .Mr.Singh has 38 years of experience in Radio Broadcasting and has been honoured with so many rewards. Mr.R.K.Singh enlightened the students and faculty about the journey of radio broadcasting.He explained the various ways of broadcasting:medium wave broadcasting, frequency modulation, satellite broadcasting, internet broadcasting and short- wave broadcasting. The students and teachers enriched their experience and knowledge through the seminar.They were introduced to technical terms like demodulation,pitch,temper,amplitude modulation etc.The audio- visual aids and presentation he used added to the audience's interest in the field of broadcasting .The seminar ended with a question- answer session that was intellectually stimulating and enriching.A formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.KavitaArora,Convenor ,SDC.

Report on Skill Development

Skill Development Committee of Shyam Lal College organized a 15 days workshop on COMPUTER BASICS from 24th February 2016 to 9th March 2016 in the college library. A batch of 40 students completed the workshop and got benefitted by it. The workshop enhanced the skills of the students with regard to Word Processing, Spreadsheet, PPT, exposure to online library resources and basic computer hardware. Learned faculty members of the college voluntarily contributed as the resource persons.

Seminar on “Online Trading”

The Skill Development Committee organized a seminar on “Online Trading” on 29th March,2016 at 11:30 am in the Seminar Hall. The speakers were Mr. Himanshu Rai, Manager, Edelweiss Asset Management Limited and CS Bareja, Associate Prof., Shyam Lal College (E),fellow member of ICSI.

More than 100 students from different departments of the college participated in the seminar. The speakers elaborated on online trading and its mechanism. They discussed various aspects of online trading i.e. mutual funds, rolling settlements, dematerialization of securities etc.Practical session on online trading helped students to have a practical experience of online trading. The seminar ended with a vote of thanks to the learned speakers.

Seminar on “Organic Farming : An Upcoming Skill Dimension”

The Garden Committee and Skill Development Committee jointly organized a seminar on “Organic Farming : An Upcoming Skill Dimension” on 11th March,2016 at 11:00 am in the Seminar Hall. The talks were delivered by Dr. Vasudha Gautam, Assistant Director, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Saurav Ghosh, Secretary, CFM and Mr. Dhruv Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist, CFM. The speakers elaborated on various approaches towards Organic Farming and its relevance in today’s world. They also encouraged students to choose agriculture and organic farming as career options discussing about the sustenance of agriculture in India. The three talks were met with great enthusiasm by the students. The talks were followed by questions and a doubt clearing session. The seminar ended with a vote of thanks to the learned speakers.
