Seminar-cum-Workshop on "What after Graduation?"
A Seminar-cum-Workshop was organised by SLC Placement Cell in association with T.I.M.E. Education on January 25, 2018. It was conducted on the topic: "What after Graduation?"
Mr. Amit Sinha was the Key Speaker. He was welcomed by Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar (Principal) and Mr. Anil Khurana (Convenor, SLC Placement Cell) with a token of gratitude. Mr. Amit suggested the students to set SMART goals and made them aware about the different opportunities after graduation. He informed them about the important exams and the cut-throat competition among students.
Towards the end of the session, he interacted with students and cleared their doubts and queries. In the end, Mr. Anil Khurana gave a formal vote of thanks to him. The seminar was followed by an aptitude test. It was conducted so as to make the students aware about the pattern of various competitive exams and entrance exams of B-Schools.
Workshop on "Job Opportunities in Banking, Government and Public Sectors"
SLC Placement Cell, in its efforts to widen the arena of knowledge of students regarding various job opportunities and guide them how to seize the respective opportunities, organised a Workshop in collaboration with T.I.M.E. on September 20, 2017 at 12:00 P.M. in the seminar hall.
The workshop was conducted on the topic: "Job Opportunities in Banking, Government and Public Sectors." By Mr. Amit Sinha, an expert in guiding students regarding Government Jobs.
Mr. Amit started the workshop by introducing the Banking and Government Sectors. The workshop was segregated broadly into two segments, i.e., Banking and Government Jobs. He guided students for Career avenues in Banking, Staff Selection Commission CGL, UPSC (CHSL, CDS, IAS, IPS). Private sector banks were also a part of the discussion.
He informed us about various bank exams conducted by IBPS and SBI, cadre, exams similar to bank exams (Probationary Officer- equivalent and Clerk-equivalent), recruitment/ vacancies, schedule of exams and the selection processes, exam pattern and how to attempt the exams, eligibility criteria, examination scheme and pattern, syllabus, sectional and overall cutoffs. Further, he informed the students about the descriptive tests and suggested some tips to crack the interviews.
It was an interactive session which ended with a formal vote of thanks by Mr. Anil Khurana.
Workshop on Resume Writing
SLC Placement Cell, in its efforts to polish the Resume Writing Skills of the students, organised an Inaugural Workshop in collaboration with T.I.M.E. Education on 23rd August, 2017 at 12:00 P.M. in the seminar hall.The workshop was conducted on the topic: "Resume Writing- Efficient Adaptation, Enhancement and Presentation".
Mr. Kaushik Laskar, who is an alumnus of IIM, Ahmedabad, was the speaker. He enlightened the students and the faculty members with enormous knowledge on the respective subject matter. The workshop was started with a warm welcome of Mr. Kaushik Laskar by Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar (Principal) and Mr. Anil Khurana (Convenor, SLC Placement Cell) with a token of gratitude, followed by the auspicious Lamp Lighting Ceremony, which signified the inauguration of the session.
Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar addressed the gathering with his kind words and handed over the mike to Mr. Kaushik Laskar to proceed the workshop. Mr. Kaushik proceeded by saying that Resume Writing reflects the ability of a person to sell himself/herself to the prospective employer and the whole idea to write an efficient Resume is to stand out in the crowd.
He explained the difference between a Biodata, Resume and Curriculum Vitae (CV). He further pitched in some basics which can help the students to build an efficient Resume. He suggested the students to omit those details which won't be relevant for the prospective organisation. He further added that the students should know the responsibilities and requirements of the job they are applying for and they should study the Company and the Industry well before applying. He further explained how one should start writing a Resume, order of the content and how to use it sparingly. He also gave formatting tips, suggested to write the important information in bullet points and mentioned some of the Resume Howlers which should be avoided. He bestowed his blessings upon the students and adviced them to be honest with who you actually are. He advised them not to over-promise and under-deliver. Towards the end of the workshop, he interacted with students and cleared their doubts and queries. In the end, Mr. Anil Khurana gave a formal vote of thanks to him, which was followed by a huge round of applause.
Seminar on "Sustainable Livelihood For Differently Abled"
The Enabling Unit of SLC in collaboration with Placement Cell organized a seminar on the topic, "Sustainable Livelihood for Differently Abled" in the College on March 23, 2017 for the benefit of its PWD students. During the seminar, Ms. Pooja and Mr. Shalesh of Dr. Reddys Foundation delivered talks and presentations. The Foundation represents the CSR initiative of Dr. Reddys Laboratory. It has been carrying out activities for under-privileged sections of society for over last two decades. The Foundation got information about the disabled friendly initiatives of SLC through Mr. Rizvan and Ms. Anchal, both alumni of SLC who have been having a close association with the Foundation for the last 3 years.
The seminar had been organized on ground floor for the convenience of OH students of the College. Invitation to attend the seminar had been extended to all students of the College to sensitize the non PWD students to the issues facing the differently abled and to bring about an environment of inclusiveness in SLC.
During the seminar, the speakers informed the students that the main problem in India is not unemployment but unemployability, and this is related largely to absence of appropriate skills, nor is this an issue facing PWD students alone. The Foundation through its seven centres in Delhi conducts two-month programs to impart such skills to PWD students. The skills imparted include communication skills, computer skills, language skills, etc. These programs are carried out free of any charge for most students (who happen to come from under-privileged sections of society). After the completion of the programs, the Foundation ensures provision of employment to the students, and assures a minimum salary of Rs. 10000/- to every student who completes the program. At the conclusion of the seminar, following a request from Ms. Pooja and Mr. Shalesh, they were shown around the facilities created by SLC for differently abled students. They also expressed the desire to have continued association between SLC and Dr. Reddys Foundation.
Seminar on "Digital Marketing and its Importance"
On 24th January 2017, the SLC Placement Cell in association with Times Pro organized an interactive session on "DIGITAL MARKETING AND ITS IMPORTANCE" at11:00 am in Room No. 10 of the college. The seminar was addressed by Mr. KANISHK MATTA who has been in this field from around 7 years, presently working in eQuest and has conducted many sessions for NIESBUD. He is also an entrepreneur heading 2 companies dealing in Digital Marketing. His varied knowledge gave the keen audience insights of this field.
The college Principal Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar graced the event which was chaired by Convenor of the Placement Cell, Mr. Anil Khurana. Faculty including members of Placement Cell and almost 60 students were part of the interactive event. The speaker was presented a bouquet by our Principal. The seminar kicked off with an introduction of the term "Digital Marketing" followed by a detailed presentation on the same. The key differences between Traditional and Digital marketing were highlighted and the reasons for the cost effectiveness and success of digital marketing in the present era were explained. In the end, a question-answer round was conducted where the students clarified their doubts regarding the subject matter. Students were seen interacting with the speaker long after the official conclusion of the seminar. Last but not the least, a formal vote of thanks was presented by Mr. Anil Khurana.
Seminar on "How to Excel in Group Discussion and Personal Interview"
The SLC Placement Cell organized an interactive session on "How to excel in Group Discussion and Personal Interviews", to provide skill sets for excellence in GD and PI. The session took place on Friday, 13 January 2017 at 10:45 AM in Seminar Hall of the college. The keynote speaker of the session was Mr. Kaushik Laskar from Triumphant Institute of Management Education (T.I.M.E.) who has done B.Tech from IIT, Kharagpur and MBA from IIM, Ahmedabad and has expertise in preparing students who get calls from different IIMs for GD/PI. The event was graced with the presence of 8 teachers and over 150 second and third year students. With a warm welcome of guest, a token of appreciation was presented by the Convenor of the cell, Mr. Anil Khurana. At this note, began the talk where the resource person initiated sharing the role played by Group Discussion and Personal Interview in the selection process. The essentials to have excellence in GD are to work out on communication skills, leadership skills, subject knowledge and most importantly, putting all of them in amicable way. For insights on Personal Interview, the speaker recommended the soon-to-be candidates to be confident, elegant and patiently listen to the interviewer. The healthy session of how to excel in GD and PI was concluded with an equally thought provoking interaction with the students were several questions were solicited by the keen candidates and duly addressed by the speaker. At the end, Mr. Anil Khurana, Convenor of SLC Placement Cell, gave a vote of thanks to the speaker, Mr. Kaushik Laskar. After the seminar, the speaker revealed that he has been addressing several such seminars over the years, but was delighted with the professional environment he was provided by the college. The speaker also added that the warmth received was far unmatched.
Seminar on "Career Opportunities in Wealth Management"
On 21st October 2016, the SLC Placement Cell organized a seminar on "Career Opportunities in Wealth Management" at 10:30 am in Room No. 28 of the college. The event was chaired by Mr. Rajiv Satija who is a financial service industry professional and runs a boutique Wealth Management firm by the name of UpMarket Financial Advisory Service (UFAS) which helps its clients to manage their personal finances and investment. The event was graced by our respected Principal Sir Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar, Mr. Anil Khurana convener of the placement cell, teachers and more than 80 students wanting to explore the field of wealth management. The session enlightened the audience about the seemingly emerging careers in wealth management. The seminar kicked off with an introduction and deep understanding of the term "Wealth" from which this career opportunity arises followed by the aspects governing it, the process of wealth management, major global players and its opportunities for the youth in the country and abroad. The focus later shifted on the educational qualification available regarding the subject in the country and steps to make a career in the field. In the end, a question answer round was conducted where the students clarified their doubts regarding the subject matter. Last but not the least, a formal vote of thanks along with a memento was presented to the chair by Mr. Anil Khurana marking the official end of the seminar.
Seminar on 'Resume Writing and Effective Official Communication' in 2016
The Placement Cell of the college organized a seminar on “Resume Writing and Effective Official Communication”, to provide students an assistance for a perfect resume building. The seminar took place on Wednesday, 21st September 2016, from 10:30 A.M. onwards in the Seminar Hall of the college. The Speaker of the day Mr. Neel Panicker from Triumphant Institute of Management Education (T.I.M.E.) who has a Master’s in Business Administration and has been guiding aspirants seeking admission in prestigious B schools from more than a decade addressed an audience of 170 students and 5 teachers. He was warmly welcomed with a bouquet by the Placement Cell Convener Mr. Anil Khurana. With this began the interactive session, the speaker talked about the insights, as a resume becomes the face of the candidate for the interviewer it should highlight all the relevant details, it should be written in a style that the weaknesses can also treated as a strength. He further talked about keeping the resume precise and making it distinct from others. He not only enlightened the students with some great tips but also left them mesmerized by focusing on the little mistakes they might commit while writing a resume. The healthy session was concluded with an enthusiastic interaction with the students where several questions were put forward by the keen candidates and duly addressed by the speaker. The convener gave a vote of thanks to the guest. The students were pleased to extract information about the key issues while writing a resume.
