Read MoreThe socially aware students of our College are very much awake to the needs of nation building and social upliftment. The National Cadet Corps and the National Service Scheme offer ample opportunities to students to learn and contribute in these fields. It is compulsory for students to join either nss or NSS and participate in their diverse programs. Both these units of our College are quite dynamic and have provided our students with opportunities to participate in a wide array of activities, and the students can choose either, depending on their interest. While the NSS unit regularly organizes Blood Donation Camps and social awareness campaigns for our students to participate in, the nss offers them basic military training. Students enrolled with the nss unit are instructed in rifle shooting, the use of ammunitions, basic first-aid, mountaineering and trekking through tough terrains, along with participation in drills and parades.
NSS Unit of Shyam Lal College, University of Delhi observed " Nation Salutes Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel" on 31st Oct, 2017 to honour the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel by organizing a street Play titled "KYA YAHI VO BHARAT HAI " . The play was conducted in association with "Aakrosh" the Street Play Society of Shyam Lal College. Modern Indian history is incomplete without Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. His vision, his work, and his principles were highly remarkable in Independent India.He had a vision for India to consolidate it into one united country.The play tried to create a contrast between how our great freedom fighters visioned India and how it has actually become and how we just forgot their sacrifices and have lead towards a corrupted nation.
NSS (National Service Scheme) Unit of Shyam Lal College celebrated NSS Day on 26th Sep., 2017 under the guidance of NSS Unit convenor Dr. Kavita Arora. The day started with an absolutely amazing street play performed by the volunteers of "Rally For Rivers" team to create awareness about dying rivers of our country and what will be its consequences, which was followed by a Debate competition on the motion "Is the economic development of developing countries more important than protecting the environment?". The debate competition helped students to think creatively and in more practical way about the economic development and protection of our environment. An Essay writing competition was also held simultaneously on the topic "Alternative NSS Motto". In both the competitions students took active participation which boosted their morale. Sarita and Aruna Pal both from B.A. (H) got 1st and 2nd position in essay writing competition and Richi Sharma (B.Com), Nidhi Sharma ((B.Com), Radhika bagged 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes in debate competition respectively. The day wrapped up with the announcement of results of the competitions.
NSS (National Service Scheme) Unit of Shyam Lal College commemorated 70 yrs. of Independence. On the occasion of 71st Independence Day, under the guidance of Principal Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar, NSS Unit and Garden Committee of College, the Unit organized several activities i.e. Tree Plantation, Dengue awareness & Cleanliness Drive on 11th Aug. 2017. Principal Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar, NSS unit convenor Dr. Kavita Arora, Garden Committee Convenor, Dr. Ashu Gupta, A.O. Sh.J.S Chauhan, S.O Sh. Mahender Singh, A/C Officer Sh. Atul Jain, faculty, staff members along with NSS Volunteers planted saplings in and around the College campus. Municipal Corporation of Delhi also extended its support in making the campus Malaria and Dengue larva free. NSS Volunteers spread awareness through slogans and placards and cleaned the campus as well as nearby area. This event motivated the college staff and students to create green and clean environment in and around the college campus. The event also enlightened the spirit of Integrity and Patriotism amongst the college students.
NSS (National Service Scheme) Unit of Shyam Lal College commemorated 70 yrs. of Independence. On the occasion of 71st Independence Day a "Blood Donation Camp" was organized by the NSS unit of our college in collaboration with The Rotary club of Delhi Achievers on 10th August, 2017 under the guidance of Principal Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar and NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Kavita Arora. College students, NSS volunteers and faculty donated blood for the noble cause. The event turned out to be great success, about 50-60 students, faculty and staff showed up to donate blood. Staff and doctors of The Rotary club of Delhi Achievers were very supportive and calm. DG Sattish Singhal, Rotary Group, Rtn. Harsh Aggarwal, Rtn. Sunil Rathi graced the occasion.This event enlightened the spirit of Integrity and Patriotism amongst the college students.
NSS (National Service Scheme) Unit of Shyam Lal College Celebrated the "75th anniversary of Quit India Movement" on 9th August 2017. On this occasion the students and faculty of the college took Pledge to promote "National Integrity and make India Corruption free by 2022". This event enlightened the spirit of Integrity and Patriotism amongst the college faculty and students. On this day Principal Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar, had addressed the gathering and inspired the students to give their meaningful contribution in this historic movement.
NSS Unit along with Skill Development Cell, SLC also coordinated an online Quiz Competition with support of Govt. of India.
NSS unit of SLC is very dynamic and has been playing a major role towards the welfare of society by involving the youth in various social causes. For the Academic year 2015-16 Cleanliness and Women empowerment were selected as the focus areas by the NSS Centre of Delhi University. In line with these focus areas, various events and programs were organized to sensitize students and staff about these issues in the college premises during the session 2015-16.
